WORKSHOPS:
Generational Differences- There are vast differences between each generation that hinders communication and establishing a rapport between coworkers to share critical institutional knowledge. Dr. Wolter provides an in-depth review of each of the five generations currently in the work environment. He will provide the messages, experiences, traumas, and successes that shaped each generation and how the function. Dr. Wolter will share how to bridge the gaps that people experience with interacting with the various generations and how to build stronger teams, organizational synergy, and mentor pairings.
Team Dynamics – The Functional Team– In this segment, we explore the roles and responsibilities within the functional team and how that may manifest in the work environment. Since teams are made up of members from different areas who perform specific functions for the team, this structure works in both large and small organizations. (Essential Skills Focus: Teamwork, Interpersonal Skills, Work Ethic Problem-solving; Flexibility)
Mentoring Skills– This segment provides participants with the basics of being a good mentee and how to successfully identify and work with a mentor. Participants review best practices for specific mentoring strategies, develop effective communication skills for ensuring success of knowledge/skill transfer, understand the importance and benefits of diversity in a mentoring relationship given generational, cultural, and gender differences, and explore effective means for conflict resolution through teachable moments. Conflict Response– This session introduces participants to conflict dynamics and its implications in day to day work place situations. Conflict is not always negative and needs to be approached with care and consideration. Participants will understand how they typically approach conflict and then work on developing strategies to enable working with people who have different conflict approaches. (Essential Skills Focus: Communication, Problem-solving; Accountability; Professionalism)
Interpersonal Skill Development– In this segment, participants encounter the interpersonal skills critical for forming and maintaining effective relationships at work. Through an understanding of emotional intelligence, participants will learn to develop their messages (written and verbal) carefully, with their audience in mind, focusing on body language as well as listening skills. Participants will explore strategies to managing differences and how to effectively handle difficult people and situations. Through these interpersonal skills, participants will learn how to establish trust and a supportive organizational environment through giving and receiving professional feedback. Interviewing Skills– In this worksop, the factors of job interview preparation, execution, and follow-up are addressed to ensure that participants are prepared. Participants will learn the importance of interview preparation before the actual interview. They will engage in some role-playing with skilled interviewers, learn how to research the company they are interviewing with, and prepare answers to difficult questions that are being asked by hiring managers in various fields of employment. Participants will also learn how to read body language (interviewers and their own) and ask effective questions to potential employers. Resume Development– In this segment, participants will learn to develop a resume that is clear and concise. This will enable prospective employers to effectively and efficiently understand their transferable skills. Participants will learn the recommended formats for resumes including but not limited to maximum page limits, use of action words when describing your accomplishments, and achievements in your current and past experiences. Skilled resume developers will assist participants by proofreading each résumé thoroughly and meeting with each participant to help enhance their document. Cover Letter Development– In this segment, participants will develop a cover letter that illustrates to prospective employers the match between their needs and the interviewee’s skills as well as why they would be an ideal fit for the organization. Participants will learn how to format their cover letter through proper tone, language, and writing structure that ensures it is presented in a way that’s easy to read by prospective employers. The structure includes but not limited to: Introduction, communicate enthusiasm about the position, summarize occupational, academic, and personal experiences that identify the participant as a good fit, and show how the participant values team or organizational collaboration. Professionalism– In this session, participants explore concepts of professionalism and the high value placed on it in the workplace. It has many attributes, including: respecting subject matter knowledge, competency, honesty, integrity, positive work ethic, accountability, time management, cell phone/social media usage, and professional attire (related to the field of choice). Participants will also learn to improve their own professionalism by focusing on personal integrity, identify internal core values, and how they match with potential employers. Individual Consultation
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)- In this segment, participants will complete their own MBTI self-reported assessment to determine their type indicator. Dr. Wolter will debrief after the conclusion of the assessment to discuss the results, provide feedback on their results impact the participant in their work environment, home environment, and academic pursuits.
Individualized Career Coaching/Mentoring- Participants will work one-on-one with Dr. Wolter on preparing them for their career search. This includes resume development/review, cover letter formatting/review, interview preparation, and developing networking skills. This is specifically tailor made to the needs of each client and their career search.
